Is it love?

They say life is full of lessons but the one dealt us on the 4th of May was shocking and seemed cruel. Dakota Wildfire left us… he fought hard but was not destined to be a physical presence at Windchaser Ranch. It is hard to think he will not join us on our journey… but his spirit will always be part of what we do.

The rest of May was taken up with finalising the sale and packing up all we had in a van load or two and making our way over to Spain. Charlie was to stay in Italy for a few weeks while we got things sorted for him and to try and figure out what shape our herd was to take now…

Work on the land began, carving out the paddock paradise in the forest and clearing land for the living areas. Charlie finally arrived and this for me was a huge relief. After a quick trip to Italy to make sure he load well as he started his road trip I flew back so I could welcome him with open arms.

And that brings me to Chinook Wind.. When I went to see Charlie I also looked at a 3 yr old filly, I have thought of her many times and wondered if she was meant to be… Well apparently she was and Chinook Wind joined Charlie to be our first mare and just maybe the dam of the first foal in Spain for over 200 years! Thank you LOC international horse transport for an exceptional service and care bringing her over.

Time has been spent divided between getting to know Chinook, settling Charlie into his new surroundings and working the land.

It has been an incredibly emotional time. Saying goodbye to those we love, not just Diesel but all our dear friends in Italy. As we finally move to where we want to be and look to the future, we are welcomed by new friends. Adding new members to our herd as we build our future together.

We see out July tired, dirty but very happy….

Separation Anxiety

separation anxiety is not something to punish but it is something to work through with them. There’s nothing gained just separating the horse that is anxious and leaving them to work it out on their own.
