This week the yard has been overrun by small bipeds. As the schools have now closed for the summer holidays the yard is holding summer camp. For a week the parents bring the small humans and leave them at the yard to participate in horse related activities while they go and do whatever it is they need to do.
Charlie, although not supposedly part of the weeks agenda, proved to be very popular with the kids. As the only Spanish Mustang in Italy they can’t help imagining Cowboys and Indians and of course the inevitable reference to ‘Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron’ (the 2002 animated film following the adventures of a young Kiger Mustang stallion living in the wild west).
I took the opportunity to talk to them about how a happy horse is one that is respected, kept as natural as possible and why barefoot is an important part of that.
If I can plant a seed in just one of them, meaning they change the way they see a horse, as partners, then I would be happy.
